Tara Goodfellow, MBA is the managing director of Athena Educational Consultants, Inc in Matthews, NC.  Since keeping fit is so important to Tara, she discovered a good way to get her two daughters involved with her workout routine.

We were able to sit down with Tara to find out more about the journey she and her family took toward accomplishing their fitness goals.



What are the ages of your children?

 Ages 8 and 10.

 

What is your favorite workout to do with them?

Tae Kwon Do with my girls! Why, we don’t just work out, we earn our stripes and belts as we’re on our black belt in Tae Kwon Do journey together.

 

When did you get started?

We started summer 2013, when they were 6 and 8.

 

How often do you work out together?

We train together 3-4 times a week. There’s always so much to learn so we also practice outside of training too.

 

What is the duration?

Around 50 minutes a session.

 

How has it changed your family?

One daughter’s now on the sparring team and the other daughter has acquired so much confidence.  She’s gone from crying if she didn’t line up next to me to testing rows behind me! Not only does Tae Kwon Do instill the tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit, but it’s also an amazing way for the girls to learn and understand self-defense while also getting a great workout!

 

What’s next?

We’re on schedule to earn black belts in April of 2016….a month after I turn 40!
