It’s true that children learn to speak a language more easily than adults, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t need help doing so. Like anything else, practice makes perfect. Children don’t even pick up their native language without being exposed to it for long periods of time and practicing it for years until they are fully fluent. It is foolish to think that learning a second language would be any easier for them than the first. The reason children learn their native language is because it is reinforced every time they hear someone speak. The same applies for any other language. If they aren’t exposed to it frequently and actively try to listen and learn it, then there is no way they will just “pick it up”.
