Language Development Myth
By: Smart Coos
Because the United States is one of the few countries in the world that has a mostly monolingual population, pediatricians who study in the States only receive instruction on the language development of monolingual children. Only trained language development specialists receive extensive training on language development across all levels (monolingual, bilingual, trilingual, etc.). Most pediatricians are also influenced by the archaic notion that learning multiple languages confuses children. This is not true, and has been disproved by many studies. Doctors should obviously be trusted with your health, but only when it comes to their area of expertise.
