Chris Chianesi: MANNYPROBZ

MannyProbzChris Chianesi is the creator of the YouTube series MANNYPROBZ, which follows Chris in his everyday life as a Manny (male nanny). Chris was born and raised in Rhode Island and moved to New York City in 2005 to study theater at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.  He’s also trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Since graduation, he’s been fortunate enough to travel the world doing what he loves – acting! With some exciting babysitting adventures on the side, of course.

Recently, Smart Coos got to interview this amazing Manny about his experiences on the job.

What was the inspiration behind your Web Series? Why have you continued?

When I graduated from college, I knew I would need a day job that allowed a certain amount of flexibility (so that I could leave for auditions and callbacks). I had always heard of friends earning extra money as babysitters and that male babysitters (mannies) were actually becoming quite popular. I had a ton of experience working with kids through different summer programs at home, so I knew that babysitting would be something I could do with no problem.  After a while, I started to realize that funny stuff would always happen when I was on the clock with these kids. My friends loved hearing about all these stories, and encouraged me to write them all down. Flash forward a few years and here I am with MANNYPROBZ!

Do you have children? If not, do you plan on having any? How many would you like to have?

I currently have no children and don’t see that happening in the near future. Or at least until I meet my artistic goals and am financially comfortable to support a child! My focus right now is on creating something funny and memorable that will last forever and put a smile on peoples’ faces.

What has been your fondest memory of running your web series? Your not so fondest memory? Why?

My fondest memory of the web series was seeing people’s’ reactions to the first episode. I had no idea what they would be. If they would think it was truly funny, stupid, boring – I honestly had no idea. All I knew was that it was MY brand of comedy and that I was extremely proud of it. My not so fondest memory is when we were filming the row boat episode in Central Park, and Liesl threw the oar overboard into the slimy water!

You can watch the rowboat episode right here. Chris’ brand of comedy definitely left me laughing and Liesl may have thrown the oar overboard, but darn is she cute!

If you could list three important things (e.g. advice or suggestions) to your followers what would they be?

My advice to any of my followers would be to get out there and create your own content! I spent so much time thinking and talking about doing this series and once I got the ball rolling, I realized that I could create something really special. And I have the best scene partner in town, so that’s also a plus! Another piece of advice I have is, don’t be afraid to ask for help or put yourself out there. It’s a lot of work and there are a lot of moving pieces, so if anyone is willing to help- let them!

What does the future look like for you, your (future) family and your business?

As for what the future holds, I just hope to keep on creating new episodes of MANNYPROBZ, and eventually expand the YouTube channel to include additional series with new stories and characters.
